Thunderbirds Shock Vees' in RBC Opener:

Game one is done for the Doyle Cup Champion Penticton Vees, and they have some ground to make up.

A 44 save performance by Soo goaltender John Kleinhans led the T-Birds to a 2-1 victory over Penticton today in Humboldt. Jake Wright got the Birds on the board in the first near the midway mark, before the Vees tied it up early in the 2nd on a goal from Joey Benik.

Ex-Salmon Arm Silverback Bryce Gervais picked up the lone assist on the goal. Play would favour the Vees as after 40 minutes they had a 30-12 shot margin, but were stuck in a 1-1 tie.

Midway through the final frame, James Delayer would score unassisted for Soo to give them a 2-1 lead, which would eventually be the final score.

Final Shots on goal in the game would favour Penticton by 30, as the final tally would read 45-15.

Steven Fogary was given Player of the Game for the Vees, and as expected; Kleinhans picked up the honor for the victorious Central Region representative.

The Vees next game will be tomorrow (Sunday) night, against the host Humboldt Broncos at 6:30 Pacific time. This is a game you won't want to miss as the Broncos have proven year after year they can compete with the best; not to mention it's on their home ice this year. You can catch the game live at http://penticton.myezrock.com/ with Fraser Rodgers, the voice of the Vees.
