Hawks Pick Up 2 Points vs La Ronge:

The Nipawin Hawks ended their struggles with a 3-1 win tonight at home over the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Davis Jones was by far the sharpest claw, making 44 stops on 45 shots. At the other end, Myles Hovdebo made 27 saves on 29 shots.

Grant Jensen scored his first of the season on the powerplay in the opening frame, with Tad Kozun dishing a cross ice pass to the pinching Jensen. Kozun picked up his first of three assists on the night. Mitch Doell also added a helper.

In the second, Taylor Balog got a beauty pass in front, once again from Kozun. Hovdebo stood no chance getting across, and the Hawks went up by 2, four minutes before the games midway point. Dexter Bricker also assisted on the goal.

Brendan Boyd made it 2-1 at 11:23 of the 2nd, but the Hawks battled hard for the rest of the game picking up 2 points over an Ice Wolves team that will be in Melfort on Wednesday night.

Wheaton King added a breakaway empty netter with under a minute to go, putting the nail in the coffin.

As far as special teams went, the Hawks went 1/6, while successfully killing off all 5 shorthanded efforts. The game features a couple tussles, between Taylor Balog and Brett McNevin; and then later between Dustin Skilliter and La Ronge captain Graham Smerek.

Jones, Kozun and Boyd were named the games 3 stars in front of 504 faithful at the Centennial Arena.

Nipawin welcomes ex-Hawk Ryan Ostertag and the Weyburn Red Wings to town on Friday night, with puck drop set for 7:30.
