It was a night that started oh so well for the Hawks, but at the end of the game, it was the Millionaires who had the last laugh, winning 5-3 after trailing 3-1 in the 2nd.
Russel Trudeau scored the games opening goal, before Carter Coben and Jesse Bernard scored 1st period goals to send the Hawks to the break in front. Dustin Skilliter, Brady Zerr and Wheaton King added assists on the 1st period markers.
Early in the 2nd, Michael Lambert would find the puck on the doorstep to beat Mills netminder Alex Wakaluk, who made 33 saves on the night. Tad Kozun and Jesse Bernard put up the helpers.
With a 2 goal lead, Nipawin looked to hold all momentum, building up a large shot margin, but Ian McNulty gave his team a spark with under 2 minutes to go, cutting the Hawks lead to on.
For most of the third, Melville held pressure, and just after the midway mark they would strike twice in 16 seconds with Michael Sagen scoring right before Trudeau added his 2nd of the night.
The Hawks would send Davis Jones to the bench for the extra attacker but Alex Elliot sealed the deal late. Trudeau picked up his 3rd point of the night on the play, bringing his season total to 11 through his teams first 7 games.
Jones made 22 stops in the loss, and his team will look to rebound tonight in Yorkton. The game can be heard on CJVR and online at yourtownnews.ca
