Brandon Formosa scored a power play goal just past the midway point of the opening period. He roofed a rebound after Logan Sceviour fired a point shot towards Wings' netminder Nate Ferris.
Weyburn would tie the game in the 2nd, with Ryan Ostertag picking up his 9th goal in 7 games since being traded from Nipawin 6 games in to this season. Melfort left off the gas pedal a little in the 2nd, but had a 1-1 tie going in to the room.
In the 3rd, Jay Aason would put the Mustangs power play to 2/4 on the night with a rocket shot from the point that fooled Ferris. The Mustangs power play had finally awoken and they went in front late.
A push from Weyburn late in the game would result in a dying minutes penalty against the Mustangs, but Patrick Johnson remained solid in net, holding out several booming one timers from Carter Struthers.
Making 26 saves for the win, Johnson improved as the game went on. Ferris made 29 stops in the losing cause, while Melfort improved to 6-7-0-0 on the season. Weyburn fell to 3-12-0-0.
Tonight, the 'Stangs host the Melville Millionaires at the Palace, who are coming off a 8-3 win last night, not to mention a 6 goal 3rd period. These two teams will rematch on Tuesday night in Melville, that game will be heard on CK750.
