Cents Hone Blueline, Add Toneff From Smoke Eaters:

The Merritt Centennials swapped Dylan Bowen to the Trail Smoke Eaters for Curtis Toneff Wednesday, in a d-man for d-man deal.

Well as I can imagine, it wasn't a deal that was easy for the coaching staff to make, but it's a business and the business is to improve your team. I feel as though with Luke and Joe adding Curtis Toneff they improve their back end that is already very skilled.

Curtis brings plenty of experience to the lineup, and will be suited up come Friday night when the Vipers are in town.

I want to personally wish Dylan the best of luck in Trail, he is a great kid with a very bright future. Plus, he can shoot the puck in to the back of the net!

Here's the release:

The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce the acquisition of defenceman Curtis Toneff (93) from the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL in exchange for defenceman Dylan Bowen (95).

Toneff, 20, brings a veteran presence to an already-solid defensive core, having played over 100 games at the Junior A level. The Nanaimo, BC product spent time in the SJHL, MJHL, and with Alberni Valley, Westside and Trail of the BCHL. Most recently, Toneff has been a force on the Smoke Eaters blueline, recording 13 points in 24 games.

"We felt that we needed to add a different element to our defense core and believe that Curtis is the right type of player for our group." said Cents GM & Head Coach Luke Pierce. "He adds more experience and a certain level of physicality and grit. He has had a productive season so far offensively and can contribute when needed in that capacity."

Pierce gave strong kudos to Bowen for his time in the Nicola Valley, "Dylan was a great person here in Merritt and we thank him for his contributions to our club. We think he has a bright future in the game and will hopefully have a more prominent role in Trail with the direction they are taking."

"We look forward to welcoming Curtis to Merritt this weekend and are excited to see him in a Centennial jersey." Pierce concluded.
